At Kittitas Secondary School, our FACs classes are taught by our FCCLA adviser, Mrs. Uceny.

Mrs. Cheryl Uceny
At Kittitas, Mrs. Uceny is our adviser for FCCLA. She teaches all our FACS classes. She puts a lot of time into these programs and has made everything run smoothly for the last 20+ years.
The goals of FACS education where specified in 1994 by the now know as Association for Career and Technical Education [ACTE]:

Family and Consumer Science courses offered at Kittitas Secondary School include:
Careers in Ed.
1 credit

This course is designed to give students an introduction to the teaching profession. Students will spend a trimester in the classroom learning course content and a trimester next fall in a classroom working with another teacher. Each student will complete a portfolio of their work, which can be used for college credit.

Child Development
1/2 credit
​
This course focuses on family structure, prenatal development, and child development. Course includes reports and presentations, time card sheet, parenting simulation and exams.
​
Culinary Prep
1/2 credit
​
This course is designed to teach basic culinary skills. Each student will be responsible for keeping a time card, participating in labs, lab demonstrations, extended learnings, and a comprehensive final.

Food and Fitness
1/2 credit
​
This course involves two days a week non-completive physical activity, three days a week coursework, presentations, group projects, extended learning, exams, and a comprehensive final. Exercise days will be scored on effort by the students. Coursework days require a time card sheet.
​
Interior Design
1/2 credit
​
This course includes a portfolio of housing and interior design concepts, presentations, hands-on-projects, extended learning, exams or some other form of assessment.

MS STEM FACS
1/2 credit
​
This is a general, beginning level course consisting of culinary preparation, quilting, and service learning. Students will keep a notebook of coursework, timecard sheet, labs, projects, presentations, exams, and a final.

HS Power of One
1/2 credit
​
This course is created around the national Power of One program. Each student will be required to complete the five Power of One components: Take the Lead, A Better You, Working on Working, Speak Out For FCCLA, and Family Ties. Course includes presentations, projects, etc. Students will keep a time card for participation and complete 150 points for their PAW Pride Service Learning Sheet.

Real World
1/2 credit
​
Each student will be given a workbook to complete containing topics such as goal setting, personal finance, housing, etc. Other requirements include extended learning, exams, and a culminating activity, which requires their active participation. A timecard will be used to keep track of the participation points.

STARS Training
1/2 credit
​
This course follows the state guidelines for childcare workers. Those who complete the course with 80% or better will become state certified and may choose to receive college credit equivalency through YVCC.
